Scott Rauscher letter to Montana and Wyoming Friends

Great Falls, MT 59403
October 20, 2023

Dear Friends in Montana & Wyoming,

Thank you for being patient with my lapses in communicating over the last several months as we are learning how to navigate important changes and safety measures with CSA and SA. We agree it is imperative that CSA and SA be dealt with directly and legally while focusing on the victim. We are very thankful for each one of you and we appreciate your patience and your support in many ways. We are truly mindful of those who are a victim of any form of abuse and every one of you that has suffered pain and loss. The ministry seeks to help and support each and every soul, and we apologize for any way that we have failed victims in the past.

It is necessary to make it absolutely clear that Robert Corfield has no part in the ministry. Anything that he has done in the past to help us workers is being taken over by others. Our hearts go out to his known victim. We also want to apologize for the very inappropriate comments that were made in a recent visit regarding Dean Bruer. We recognize how these comments continue to harm people who have already been directly and indirectly victimized.

Our staff’s desire is to be approachable and communicate openly, while using discretion where it is needed as we work in a quiet, confidential way with victims. We intend to hold each other accountable while in this growth and learning space, by open communication with the staff and you folks.

Working together is very important and essential (Ephesians 4:3 – unity of God’s Spirit). As individuals – walking in His Spirit – we make up the Fellowship, which is His Body. Each one of us either adds or diminishes to His Spirit in every meeting. This is a great privilege and also a great responsibility. We are aware that God in His mercy is calling our attention to our need to take our salvation seriously.

We are thankful that we have the Bible as our map, Jesus as the Way, and the Spirit as our guide as we travel through life together.

As the Convention season begins to wind down – and Special Meetings begin – we are looking forward to and anticipating some very helpful days ahead.

Please feel free to communicate your concerns with me or any of our staff, or with those that you feel closer to. We do wish to hear your concerns and feelings. We will also include an updated list for trauma resources.

Every good wish in Christ,
Scott R.

  1. Scott: Do you unequivocally deny knowingly having directed Corfield to other areas while knowing he had been an abuser? Yes or no? No sermonizing. If you ignore this request for honesty, then you will be seen as guilty of knowingly aiding a known abuser. If you choose to lie, then that’s between you and God on Judgment Day.

  2. Don’t thank us for our patience. Step down. Whatever correct words you have found after getting your legal ducks in a row and being told by decent people what to do and say ring hollow. A leader doesn’t wait months. You are the least appropriate candidate for the job. One of the people you didn’t take advice from for months should be in charge.

    1. No worker/minister should “be in charge”. There’s zero scripture to back that, but Matthew 18 makes it very clear what the ministry SHOULD look like. Scott is in a man-made position. The only time an ‘overseer’ is mentioned in the Bible references the Elders of the fellowship. When the authority of the Elders was taken away, this ministry has headed down the toilet. We do not follow the ministry , we follow Jesus. I don’t buy anything any of these men are selling…in Washington, we have a corporation that’s now looking at things to tell the people where they went wrong, and are making documents/contracts for incoming recruits to the Ministry to sign that they won’t do evil things??? Which seems to be contagious 😷. Absolutely NO FAITH in the living God, and impressing on those following Jesus to spend more time in prayer and meditation. We KNOW where it “all went wrong”. Why do so many talk like it’s a mystery? Mind boggling!!

  3. Things aren’t much different up here in Canada. Wings if you’d like to post the letter below separately, please do so. This is from SK/MB/NW ON Canada Overseer Jim Atcheson. For the most part, Jim has been incognito, hoping for the storm to blow over. Now he drops this “little note” onto the friends, many of whom are still clueless about what has been going on in the fellowship. Some by choice and some due to the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy of communication that is prevalent up here.

    Dear Friends.
These recent months have been very difficult for all of
us and we apologize for being unwise in what we wrote or
    suggested to you sometimes.
In very recent times we have enlisted the advice and
help of several of our sister workers and a little band of
friends that have professional backgrounds. Their spiritual
sensitivity and their deep sense of care for the vulnerable,
we’ve greatly appreciated and have found their counsel and
guidance to be practical and sound.
We anticipate good days of spiritual feeding and
fellowship in our days of Special Meetings. We are aware
that there may be some who at this time, aren’t comfortable
having workers visit. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱
𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁
𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. This will enable them to
make sure they arrange your visit for the time that best suits
    you.
We, and the workers in your field are wanting to be
approachable. There are so many things we’re dealing with
these days that are so new to us, and we hardly know how to
handle them. However, we are so very grateful that our
Heavenly Father is still on the throne, and we can still trust
Him to bring about righteousness in His time.
    Your brother in Him,
    Jim

    1. Unfathomable. The leader stays in charge after admitting other people know better how to handle his job than he does. Just because he wants to be in charge. As if any other option doesn’t exist.

      1. This is what happens when your ministers do not get formal training. Child/sexual abuse are psychological issues that most people do not understand unless they have had training. I feel everyone’s frustrations, but just saying…. ministers need accredited training in counseling so they can guide people to the appropriate professionals who can safely help victims.

Psychological issues are not the same as spiritual issues although they are intertwined.

        1. @ Esther – Yes, our ministry, AND our Elders (Sunday Morning/Union Meetings), AND Bishops (Midweek Bible Studies), AND Decans (who help out with many tasks) are all MANDATED reporters. But, they are NOT qualified to understand or help with any type of abuse. So, DO NOT report it first to them, do as we are told (scripturally) to obey the law and GO to the Hospital first, if you’ve (or your loved one) was raped or assaulted, they will inform the police, who ARE trained to handle this type of mental disability that allows for these types of crimes to be committed. They will come to the Hospital to ask you questions, and get a name/names. Once the investigation has been completed and there’s charges pending, take that to the workers! Then, there’s no question they are aware of the crime, and who was involved. THEN, if THEY do not remove that person from ALL contact with children and vulnerable (which would be EVERY meeting, because we don’t have “closed meetings” (or at least ones that the Spirit of God would feel included) that don’t include certain victims or potential victims), that’s when YOU turn those workers involved AND the Elder or Bishop, or Decan in to the authorities for “Harboring a criminal” and “KNOWINGLY allowing a criminal access to vulnerable individuals”. Get an attorney, as there could be other potential charges as well.

    2. Sad. But, when one moves into positions that are not scriptural, then they face harsh realities …. There are consequences for circumventing God’s plan. Too overwhelming? You should have stuck with the scripture. Then, we won’t have things come up that are too big for us to face. Yes, there still will be evil, but if like Jesus, you sent it to where it belonged, you wouldn’t be “overwhelmed. When Jesus was faced with the taunting of not paying taxes, He paid them! He didn’t send the money to God, but to the one in authority to collect it. Just as every single report of misconduct should have been sent to the legal authorities that handle these broken laws. These are felonious acts. Call them what they are: Sexual Assault and Childhood Sexual Assault and Abuse. Calling it SA and CSA is just trying to make it not seem so bad. It’s wicked and evil!

  4. ” as we work in a quiet, confidential way with victims” Riiiight….I haven’t heard of any victims actually being helped by workers, especially Robert Corfield’s victims; was it so quiet as to not be heard outside of your head, Scott? Did you think about transferring a great big wad of money into the AFTT victims’ therapy fund? Actions are so much louder than your quiet, inner words Scott. You and your “dear brother” Robert Corfield, as you’ve previously called him knowing his child sexual abuse crimes, need to step away and try working in the real world.

  5. “Each one of us either adds or diminishes to His Spirit in every meeting.”
This is not possible. We cannot add to or diminish God. Verses 12 and 13 of Ephesians 4 actually tell us that God equips us to come into unity…not us.
Perhaps I misunderstand his meaning, but if so, those words are very unclear.

    1. JP: You are so correct. Read verses Ephesians 4:1 that ye walk “worthy”(3 strikes and you are-out?not?)
and :2 ( every article of clothing and every step IS to convince US this is them!) Just don ‘t have a standard they do not meet; and stand against them in your DEFENSE:,because you will BE soundly flogged).
Scott is NOW going to go to each and every one they cast-out and bring them back???? NO, it is your responsibility to “have the right Spirit”!

He is even reaching into NEW territory – A different Gospel than the “Kingdom Gospel” that they follow; that is their example: Jesus earthly, fleshly ministry.
Scott is stepping out-of-bounds of their ministry of Jesus. WHY?
This is the Gospel of the Grace of God, the Risen Christ gave to Paul.
Next is a very Unmovable, Unchangeable Pillar of the Gospel of the GRACE of God. This is the “Standard” by which Ephesians 3:1-9 is measured. If any religion NOW has a Doctrine different than 4:3 – :7 in any way; the religion is counterfeit.
      1. 4:4. 2×2’s have a ministry of the Gospel Jesus and the 12 preached = The Good News to God’s chosen Nation of Israel of the promised and ‘covenanted’ “Kingdom of Heaven on Earth is at Hand. (The King is in your midst.)
      1. 4:4 the unchangeable Doctrine is NOW Ephesians 1:17-:23
      “there is ONE=”body”! (not kingdom)Ephesians 1:22-:23; Romans 12:5.
      ” there is one “Spirit” = 2 Corinthians 1:21-:22. Ephesians 1:13
      “there is one”hope =Galatians 2:20, Colossians 2:12-:13 1 Thess.4:14-17. ETC…..
ETC. What is it Scott? The Good News of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth that Jesus AND the 12 preached to Israel –
OR is it the Good News of God wrought in the risen Christ (Ephesians 1:17, :20, :22-:23)??? Sorry, Scott: you do NOT know do you?
You all can NOT follow Jesus’ ministry; nor the 12’s ministry. WHY? If you follow Jesus in his “fleshly ministry” to bring Israel back to God; how is it you now NEED to now change your Gospel and your Doctrine from Jesus’ fleshly ministry given by God, the Father to the 12.?
Folks there is NOW “Uncovered” NOT JUST a moral depravity in God’s One Only Right Way; BUT THEY DO NOT even know what their Doctrine was or is!

  6. If he’s still learning how to handle rapists and molesters and how to have empathy and compassion for victims all while hiding, ignoring, shuffling or protecting predators and evilness in the fellowship then I’m not sure what spirit has been guiding him all these years. I don’t recognize Jesus in this church.

    1. Wheres Dale Hiding?

How does one ‘recognize Jesus’ in a twist of God’s Bible led by ‘satan’.
      Jesus is NOT there.
Just remember ‘satan’ does not give place to the “risen, ascended Lord”.
Satan only is able to give place to those ‘under his control’.
Christ, the risen – ascended Lord is only able to ‘hold us in His hand’ when
anyone allows. (Amazing how satanic control cannot be hid)

      1. Sexual offenders have mental health issues. You can give them all the spiritual support you want, but that does not eliminate their need for psychological treatment/help. First step is accountability and that comes with transparency of systems and groups that are involved.

  7. This mess is far and above any of the “workers” in this belief system to correct. This is a legal matter!! One or two allegations might be questionable but when you have hordes of people reporting it should be a considered a world wide scandal and law enforcement needs to be involved in a coordinated effort to investigate.

    1. I agree. As a Mandatory Reporter, I have reported situations that I could not conclusively state whether abuse occurred, but as a result of reporting to the legal authorities, trained professionals investigated and documented the visit. This record can be extremely helpful to detect whether ongoing or widespread abuse is occurring.

All “professing” people are encouraged/expected to follow the law of the land. It’s the law of the land to report child abuse to the legal authorities. These professionals are trained on how to appropriately handle these situations.

I don’t feel it’s appropriate to expect your “workers” to handle these situations when they don’t have the formal training to appropriately deal with them. People need to first report to the legal authorities, then contact your elder, worker and/or overseer in your area. Each reporting incidence will connect the community to resources/services that can help the community become more and more proactive in preventing future abuse.

  8. The ministry has never wanted to take responsibility the CSA/SA within the ministry or fellowship. They were big on trying to provide forgiveness for pedophiles and molester- if the victims would just forgive everyone would be okay. the problem is a large % of these folks want forgiveness but want to continue their evil sinful ways. When Christ provided forgiveness he said go and sin no more.
Everyone agrees the authorities should have been notified from the start. Since that is not what happened the ministry has lost the respect and integrity of many in the fellowship. Can you trust the ministry with you and your families welfare and salvation?
Some say if you pray for God’s direction he will lead us right back. Paul told the folks to flee from evil- separate ourselves. Many are following were God leads them- not to a ministry that has no integrity or trust. If you child or spouse was molested or raped by these men – what would your answer be?
I would hope and pray it would be to remove yourself from evil.
May we all follow where God leads. We will continue for those who love our Heavenly Father and his son, Christ.

    1. I think the biggest error in this community is the failure of members to report to the legal authorities first, then talk with their “workers”. They are citizens of a country whether they “profess” or not. It’s responsibility of those directly involved who suspect or know of abuse to report to the legal authorities. Since this church does not have the non-profit status, are the ministers (workers) mandated reporters like other ordained ministers of churches who have a non-profit status?

      1. yes, it’s mandatory for ALL in the ministry, the Elders, the Bishops, and the Decans. They ALL are considered part of the clergy by law.
