This case has not been concluded. Unless a judgment of conviction is entered, the defendant is presumed innocent of all charges.
Evan Byers was in the work in Wisconsin 1994-2001. He married in 2003.
He faces three counts relating to 2000-2001:
- Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (3 or more 1st degree acts)
- 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child
- Child Enticement-Sexual Contact
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10.30 am May 10, 2024.

The list continues to grow of, “some men who he had called into his ministry to preach the gospel”. Does any THINKING person really believe this program started by William Irvine, and populated by sexual predators, is ” His ministry “? THE ministry of God? This ongoing growing list of sexual predators is shameful and then to somehow say these people are called from God is abhorrent, simply revolting.

We are all horrified to hear of another victim to this terrible crime, but are you telling us that if God calls someone to be in his ministry that the individual will be perfect and never do anything wrong their entire life? In other words if we have found Gods way, his ministry, we will know for sure because everyone in it is perfect. No tares. No turning back, sounds wonderful. Please jet us know when you find it.
This gets further and further lopsided everyday. A quote, “are you telling us that if God calls someone to be in his ministry that the individual will be perfect and never do anything wrong their entire life?”. God calls ANYONE into HIS MINISTRY that will repeatedly have sexual assaults against another? This is God’s ministry? Full of sexual predators for children?
Not just one lame duck, one person that slipped through the vetting process to be a ” worker”. Time and time again this is happening and people still stand up and defend this saying, “God calls them”. It’s time for a new spokesperson for the ” truth” because this person supporting these sick child molesters does nothing for the group’s reputation.
What does the law say? “Under our law, a person is guilty of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree when, over a period of time not less than three months in duration, he or she engages in two or more acts of sexual conduct, which includes at least one act of sexual intercourse, oral sexual conduct, anal sexual conduct or aggravated sexual contact, with a child less than eleven (11) years old”.
How can anyone defend someone, a grown man, that does these acts with another person that is not even a teen and saying, “are you telling us that if God calls someone to be in his ministry that the individual will be perfect and never do anything wrong their entire life?”
No, everyone will sin daily, but do significant psychological damage to a child to gratify themselves sexually? That is not okay. This ongoing abuse goes far beyond the seven deadly sins that includes lust. This is inflicting life long damage to a very innocent and young child. To even try and defend this by saying, “are you telling us that if God calls someone to be in his ministry that the individual will be perfect and never do anything wrong their entire life?”, is sick. And, the person saying this is a long time elder in the church?
Amen…You may or may not be old enough to remember. But it was drilled into our heads at everything convention, special meeting, gospel meeting etc. that this is God’s perfect way. God’s Perfect ministry. We were God’s chosen people,! I remember it from a little kid on. 60’s thru the 80’s. We’ll come to find out this way is rotten. Littered with sick horrible people. Not all of course. But, way way too many. We/I was brainwashed. I wish I’d never been born into this sect/cult. Because that’s exactly what it is,!
@Skip, sure I remember those terms of Gods perfect way and His chosen people. I am sure that like me you also heard a lot about the need to keep ourselves as a little child so God could complete the work within us to remain as His chosen people. That when God created us he gave us free choice. That every day we have to chose to remain under his care and help. We heard story after story from the old and New Testament of chosen people that eventually took their own way. One generation serving God and the next failing miserably. Despite the choices we make Gods way is perfect. Wonderful God shows us his ways and gives us the strength to enter and remain by his side. But it is our choice.

Jesus is the Way. He is perfect (i.e. God’s Perfect way, as you say).
This church, whether you want to call it the church with no name, the Two x Twos, the Truth, the Go Preachers, or the Christian Conventions Church, is not “the way’ or “God’s way”, or “God’s Perfect Way” – Jesus is the way. This church is a body of people, and only a body of people, not a “way”. It is full of flawed humans, every single one. Everyone will sin. Not all will commit crimes though as the sizeable/numerous amount of workers/elders that have been tagged with credible allegations have. Do not confuse the two (sinners and (alleged) criminals – all are sinners, not all sinners are (alleged) criminals). And don’t call the church “the way”. It’s a body of people. And don’t call the methodology “the way”. That implies that the methodology leads to eternity. It does not. Man cannot earn his way to heaven through a “way”. Jesus is the way. God’s way is Jesus, and he is Perfect. We live a life of service to him in love and gratitude for the victory over sin that he won for us on the Cross. We did not merit it, it is through God’s unmerited favor (grace).
To your point – no minister of God will be perfect – but thelistgrows is not saying perfection is the criteria for a true minister of God. You will know you have found a minister of God if you see that said God’s ministry or ministers recognize this truth in Jesus (“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”). Some workers do. Many do not and instead focus on the form (living witness doctrine, 2×2, no church buildings, meetings, conventions, etc.). Their flawed terminology and failure to see God’s gift of grace embodied in the life /death/resurrection of Jesus and instead their focus on the methodology they call “the way” or “God’s way” (contrary to what the Bible clearly states in the words of Jesus, that HE is the way) will lead to a path of destruction – which is much of what we are seeing now, let alone what may await in Eternity. And to “The List Grows” point, a ministry that has had this profound of a number of alleged perpetrators raises serious questions as to their legitimacy, because if they were truly called and were truly following after Jesus, they might sin as all humans do, but they would not be (allegedly) committing crimes against children/humanity. And these crimes would not have been covered up (for years upon years) by others in the ministry including those at the highest levels- that is not what Jesus would do or endorse. And the ministry would have protected Jesus’ followers, not put them in harm’s way , if they were the “shepherds” that they claim to be. And they would rid themselves of the rot rather than seek to continue to protect it (failing to “cut of the hand”, so the body perishes, rather than protect the body by cutting the hand off, to reference scripture). It’s not just a few bad apples. It’s baked into the very core of how they operate on this earth, and enabled because of how they choose to organize and take the place of power that they do (“We are the way”), rather than uplift Jesus (“Jesus is the Way”).
The Hymn that goes “I love to think the way of God / Is just the path that Jesus trod” is flawed. God’s way is not “just the path” – it is the very Jesus himself. It should go “I love to think the Way of God / Is Jesus, and nothing more that any man can add.”
The statement every worker should make at every Gospel meeting is “We believe that Jesus is the Way. Not any church, not any body of men, not any set of rules, not any particular walk. Salvation cannot be had by any of these things. Look to Jesus, and Jesus only. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Salvation is obtained through belief in him, as he obtained victory over death and sin on the cross and his blood was shed in love for you. Love him. Follow after him. We are part of a body of people that are striving to do this. If you are moved to have fellowship with us, as our goal of following after and loving Jesus is hopefully the same as yours, we welcome you.” Sadly, I have never found this to be the case – instead it is “we’re right and others are wrong because we go out two by two and don’t have a church building”.
So, and I say this as someone who still currently attends meetings (and is trying to advocate for meaningful change from “within”), let’s please quit referring to this body of people/form of worship/style of living as either “the Truth” or “the Way”, or “God’s Way”, or “God’s Perfect Way”. It is none of these. And if you claim it is, you contradict the very words of Jesus.

I couldn’t agree more. Jesus is Gods perfect way, that is why I stated I was so thankful that God shows, reveals Him to us, and gives us the ability to abide with him. And no the body of believers are far from perfect, we are all sinners.
I am just as distraught as anyone else that any person, worker or member would hurt a child. My only point that I seem to fail to make clear is that the individual may very well have had a beginning with God, I.e. God gave him a revelation of his Son, God began a work in their lives, God gave him a place in his body;BUT he didn’t continue that fellowship with God, and God eventually removed His Spirit, and his latter end was even worse, or the same? as before he ever first met God. I think that is a much more likely scenario than what some are proposing, that these predators are seeking to join themselves to the church because we are so naive. And I feel it fits scriptures quite well, but makes our ability to change or control it pretty difficult.
To “This is the way”: Thank you so much for stating clearly and concisely what has been made more real to many of us over the past several months. It’s reassuring to know of others with this same understanding. I’m copying your post to help in communicating with other family and friends who are at different points in their own journeys.
We might all be sinners, but we aren’t all criminals. Big difference. Choosing to harm a child or vulnerable adult is not even in the same league as making a mistake. Let’s stop trying to soften the blow…these men and women all deserve to be put in prison, maybe they will find out what it’s like to be violated, and then they can find a shred of empathy for their own vicitms?

“This is the way” vs “Amen” is like comparing day light with night darkness. “This is the way” clearly states the intention and purpose of Jesus. Amen muddles in the dark trying to make sense of the “truth “.

The facts ARE it is impossible to choose a phrase or even ‘just 3 words’ out of the very commandments of Jesus as Jesus came to bring THAT Nation of Israel back to God: and build a “ministry”! Matthew 10:5, :6 and Matthew 15:24 are Jesus’ very recorded WORDS::YES; in RED: “Only Go To the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel!”
This does NOT change! Even after Jesus’ crucifixion; and the 12 were preaching to Israel in “Jerusalem”: the 12 were offering God’s very “promised Kingdom of Heaven on Earth” if, Acts 3:19 – :26 – that very government of Israel ‘would repent and be converted’.
Acts 4:1 – :3; :5 – :7; and :16 – :17 is the reaction of Israel’s very government. Acts 5: records Israel’s government then ‘casting the apostles’ “in the common prison” :17 – :18. That very government of Israel refused THEIR very offer of God’s very promised and covenanted – Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
WHAT was the result of the apostles being ‘imprisoned’? When they were released from from prison by the “”angel of the Lord”, Acts 5:19 – :20? Acts 5:21 and :41 thru :42!. The apostles departed from the presence of the “council(of the very government of Israel), rejoicing — 5:42…… ””Daily in the “”temple”” (OOPS, just like Luke 24:53; Acts 2:46 and Acts 3:1 during the “hour of prayer” God told Mosses to demand of Israel- WHY? at the HOUR of prayer). Yes, the talk of “little children “ was given frequently. Now it’s clear that children were what many workers were/are fixated on.

I love that it is said here, “(Jesus) obtained victory over death and sin on the cross and his blood was shed in love for you”. Yes, there are churches but people who are there are using the building as a place to gather the same as ” friends ” use convention buildings to gather. People inside the church don’t worship the building, they praise God, and worship Jesus and what He brought to us, which is the promise of salvation. His stripes were for our sins, bearing our sins and the punishment on our behalf. He rose from the grave, showing that we to can not be kept by death.

Thankful the ministry to Israel as God’s Chosen Nation by Jesus and Jesus’ 12 apostles to bring the Gospel of God’s perfect Kingdom of Heaven Earth IS ON HOLD! Do not get us wrong! – THAT is a beautiful and precious Gospel; but Nation of Israel refused God, Hosea 5:15 ands Amos 8:11 -:12; then refused Jesus of Nazareth, demanding crucifixion; then stoned Stephen whose face shown with the very Holy Spirit. three strikes and God set Israel and their Gospel “aside” for a season.
And this is when the GOOD NEWS of The Gospel of the Grace of God was “raised up” – when God with many revelations from the “risen Christ” in Heaven to Paul 2 Corinthians 12:1 and Galatians 1: 11 -:12 by the revelation of Jesus Christ – Acts 9:1- :6, :15. HOW beautiful to read of Christ’s Body in Ephesians 1:22 nd :23 where Christ is the HEAD. Which is explained in Ephesians 3:1 – :9 and Eph. 4:12 – :13, with 5:30. The workings of Christ’s Body is explained when Paul assures those members in the Corinth Church THAT they are Baptized by one “sSpirit” 1 Corinthians 12:12 – :14. — being many are all members of ONE BODY AND are ALL baptized in to ONE BODY and are all made to drink INTO one Spirit.
THIS is ALL the result of exactly what you both have stated: AND is written so very PLAINLY in 1 Corinthians 15:1 – :4. Jesus died for our sins:, was buried AND “rose again” the third DAY!!!
How is this different from the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven on a perfect Earth: that was promised to Israel for the first time in Genesis 12:1 – :3. Israel’s good-news was an perfect earthly Kingdom where all their every NEED was provided abundantly.

Changing “the church” will not happen because most church members believe as this writer does, known only as “Amen”. Amen feels that God “calls” these men, that are then titled “”worker”, who are eventually found out to be child sexual abusers, doing acts with children that are so far removed from most peoples mindset that they are not even imaginable.

By picking out a few verses, and taking them out of the context and purpose for which they were written, and attempting to apply these verses to a completely different time period, there will be problems. Apostles were vital at the time of Jesus to carry His message out to the population at that time, and also to perform the miracles He performed, showing His message was not from this earth.
Miracles in Scripture are acts of God that proclaim his sovereign power over creation, as well as his commitment to the good of his people. Miracles were significant because they serve a larger purpose in God’s redemptive plan, testifying to the authenticity of God’s messengers who bring his revelation to humanity. This is one of the primary functions of miracles in the scriptural narratives: “When miracles occur, they give evidence that God is truly at work and so serve to advance the gospel”. Miracles authenticate God’s message and his messengers.
Today workers are being compared to the apostles, except the workers live with the church members only, do not speak to the masses, and do not perform miracles. Also, the workers are required to be unmarried, unlike the apostles.

Trying hard to make something fit that was never supposed to be is going to cause trouble. Amen was right about one thing, with the church system set up the way it is with random men living in with families, controlling the sexual predator worker will be pretty difficult.

It is clear that the racket continued to flourish for this long because many of the people with dirt on them got promoted to high positions so they covered for each other.
The initial court case transcript of the allegations says three of his actions occurred in 9/2000 and 5/2001. Other details say he left the work in 2000. What state and field was Evan assigned to in the fall of 2000? Who was his companion? And who was the overseer of Wisconsin then?
Wisconsin conventions are held in September and all workers would be either at preps or convention during that month. The city of Marion is located in Waupaca County where this case is filed. Not sure if the Marion convention property is within the county, but…
The Marion convention grounds are presently being sold from the current owners to a new church member. Long story. That could get messy for the new owner if Evan’s investigation reveals CSA incidents have been occurring on the property. Certainly not a financial investment risk that most people would be willing to make.
Wonder where Overseer Gasser is at? Both Advocates For The Truth and the 2×2 Church Updates are asking all victims of Byers and those having relevant information to report it to law enforcement. Gasser should be sending a letter to each and every cult member in Wisconsin and telling them to do the same thing. I personally know of cult members in Wisconsin that refuse to believe that CSA is even occurring in the cult. Maybe THEY would listen to Gasser.
@Bucky, you asked where is Overseer Gasser and will he notify all Wisconsin members with CSA knowledge of Byers to report it? That’s highly unlikely to happen. After doing some extensive research, here’s why …1. He already notified everyone in the state of Wisconsin to report back when Dean Bruer dropped dead about a year ago. He would not want to cause more erosion of faith by repeating an email invitation to report, especially because …2. Byers has been out of ministry for 20+ years. He is now married with children, had left the church group years ago, and the Overseer no longer has any authority (responsibility) over him. Upon further research …3. Byers’ wife is a daughter of a favored Wisconsin family name. Over the years, her maiden family name has produced two workers. One is deceased, the other left the work and is married. The plot thickens when discovering that …4. Byer’s wife has a well respected uncle in the area who owns a hardwood flooring company. It just so happens that this uncle who lives near Byers is the person who is buying the Marion convention grounds at this very moment. The previous owners apparently had some marital problems that stopped convention from taking place in 2023 as they worked on a separation. Byer’s wife’s uncle felt moved to solve the problem and bought the property. So this means that …5. If Overseer Gasser was to intentionally notify all members in the state of Wisconsin for which he has oversight, specifically to encourage reporting of any known CSA crimes by Byers, the Overseer would be indirectly smearing the good name of a favored family (Byers’ wife’s maiden kin folk) and unintentionally undermining the uncle who is soon to own/enable the Marion convention to occur in Sept 2024. So you can see that if Gasser were to notify the entire state, he is indirectly targeting Byer’s wife and ultimately the good uncle who just spent a pile of money for a convention property. Clearly this means that …6. Overseer Gasser is between a rock and a hard place. What a tangled web we weave. Yes, Overseer Gasser should be sending a letter to the entire state. Doubtful. Perhaps Byers’ appearance in court today will find everything to be false accusations, faith and integrity will be restored for all involved, Marion convention will again continue, and everyone in Wisconsin will be happy. You can’t make this stuff up.

Never expected overseer Gasser to do anything anyways. IF Byers is convicted, maybe the victims can file a Civil Lawsuit against all the deep pockets that owned venues (i.e. conventions, baptism farms, etc.) where the evil acts occurred.

You know Gassed won’t do this though. Gasser and all of the overseers are compromised. That’s why the ship is taking on so much water. And sinking lower and lower. Faster and faster.
But there are still deck chairs to rearrange. “Who wants to buy this convention property for sale. It comes with no strings attached and absolutely no liability. Believe me, I have never lied before…”
Recall that Charles Thaine was the head man in the Badger State during this time period – a very strange character he was. He always gave me the creeps, but cult members worshiped the ground he walked on.
Did some research and found that less than five percent of the males in the USA are peds. Not sure, but the percent of male workers that are peds appears to exceed that number.
I am amazed at the courage of this victim/survivor to press charges against a man who committed horrendous abuses of a child 24 years ago. The victim/survivor faces a stressful legal process and trial. It will take strength and bravery.

Again, Amen misinterpreted what was written. What Jesus taught is for the ages, all of humanity everywhere, always, as along as there is time, forevermore.
Workers are being compared to the apostles — nobody should or can be elevated to that level; learning directly from Jesus and performing miracles as Jesus did. Workers are disciples of William Irvine, and that is where they begin and end.

How would you explain then that “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”. Or “It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe”.? Everyone hears the gospel from Preaching and the disciples of Jesus follow Jesus, even today.

Hidden dark secrets in the hearts of man. The churches and ministers were and are imperfect works. Beware of wolf in sheep’s clothing. I am thankful we can perceive the fruits of light, love, truth, charity, honesty, peace, etc. to help us look at the fruit of others. I am glad that the awareness of abuse is resonating with many in disbelief. A shock and hard for some to accept abuse quickly, as many are ignorant ( I am ignorant in many things until I learn more) and people can take years or repeat occurences, to really accept what happened, especially when it shatters foundations they built. Listen with empathy to those not in power.
I am glad that communicating things like this, can save other children and adults from (sexual) abuse going forward.
