My name is Marg Meyer. I was in the Work in Saskatchewan from 1986 to 2001 when I was put out of the Work for visiting folks who were upset with decisions that older brother workers had taken. I was given the decision to stop visiting these folks and stay in the Work or keep visiting them and be no longer in the Work. Since when does ANYONE have the right in North America to tell anyone else who they can and cannot visit??
Dale Shultz, Merlin Affleck, Jim Atcheson and Mary Roper were the 4 workers who were involved in this action.
This took place 22 years ago. My name was Marg Magowan. I believe the letter that I wrote to all workers in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba is still on the internet somewhere.
My experience with these brother workers is minor (although it still qualifies as abuse) compared to SA and CSA but it demonstrates the disfunction in thinking that is endemic in this Way. Do not expect them to change their thinking… they have not changed in 22 years. I do not trust Dale Shultz, Merlin Affleck, Jim Atcheson or Mary Roper still.
As for Mike Hassett: I once wrote to him after he spoke at convention, taking exception to something he said at convention. Instead of confronting me about the letter which would have been the appropriate thing to do, he sent the letter to Dale Shultz, and I never heard anything about said letter from either man!
So I do not trust Mike Hassett either.
I am reporting this to this site because when there is so much power awarded to a few men, it leads to a situation where CSA and SA can incubate. THE SITUATION IS RIPE FOR ALL KINDS OF ABUSE AND ALL OF THESE PERSONS ARE CULPABLE.
I especially feel for sister workers. They are expected to do WHATEVER they are told by the brothers. They quite literally have NO autonomy over their own lives… they have NO power whatsoever…. especially the ones who follow around continuously the ones who have been appointed so called “responsibility “.
I truly wish everyone all of the VERY VERY best in finding your way through all of this mess.

Thankyou Marg for taking the time to write this letter. Back when all that happened in Alberta, we just thought all the friends were wrong, never thinking that decisions made by the workers were so terribly wrong. We are so sorry that we were so taken in by the all the lies and terrible decisions made by those men. We are in our 70s now and have had our eyes opened wide. It’s been a very distressing 6 months full of betrayal and false promises. We feel for you and honest works men and women that are carrying on with little encouragement.
Thankyou Marg for the great example and inspiration you have been to us , through the years we have known you .
We Remember very well ,the time you spent in the Swan River “field” here in Manitoba . We witnessed some of the abuse you endured , for your righteous stand in supporting and caring for the “friends” who were being “thrown under the bus” if they didn’t support ungodly decisions, made by “powerful” workers .
What chance did a young inocent sister worker in a “strange” land have , of making a “difference” , but you did , for which we will be eternally grateful .
You maybe not so very big in stature , but you’re a “giant “ in standing for righteousness and we thankyou .

Paula Young — “spirit was so wrong”?! What was actually said by Marg, that you are able to say someone had a wrong spirit? Judging others is so fundamental in this group. Why not look at what someone actually says, and better yet, actually does. Looking at the heart and spirit is for God. Dean Bruer had everyone (or at least most) completely fooled. Dean Bruer was ” spirit lead”! How did that work out? God wasn’t fooled though by Dean Bruer and knew Dean was scum all along. Nobody knew Dean Bruer; they only knew Dean Bruer’s charisma, his charm, his outward appearance. Dean Bruer and his heart, his sprite? Nobody knew those hidden qualities, his agenda. Dean Bruer was the same as a snake. Talking for hours at conventions all over the world and charming the masses. Paula, you probably would have been all in on Dean Bruer. As for Marg, Marg definitely deserves kiddos for having the strength to write this letter after the abuse she had to endure at the hands of some very cruel and heartless people. Marg does not deserve further abuse, or judgement from any human about what is in her heart, or what kind of spirit she has. Give credit where credit is due. Thank Marg for not being charmed by everyone that came along, and had the fortitude to stand up in the face of adversity. This world and this group, need more like Marg.

How did you detect a wrong spirit?
Dean Bruer and other workers have wrong spirits, wrong motives, wrong doctrine and lead immoral and sometimes criminal lives and the friends have said what a wonderful meeting.
Leaves one wondering just how we detect whether it’s a right or wrong spirit.
Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. Marg was sensitive to, and had compassion on the excommunicated.
The actions of the other workers were totally ungodly.
Who do you think had the right Spirit?
Rejoice in your souls salvation. Our salvation is not based upon man’s concept and controls. Our salvation is based upon our personal relationship with God. Thank you Marg for being an example of a Christ follower.
Marg: We lived under the cloud you describe for 70 years. We were saved from the ‘experience’ of the ministry. (Knowing the the pure desire of heart, mind and soul in such innocence; the brutality of reality must be horrendeous.) But as we watched and silently shook our heads AND plodded-on; we are NOW ashamed: we did NOT stand-up for HUMAN Rights and just plain Human Dignity! We now use the excuse: that is the Nature of a Cult! AND we were the Only One Right Way with good friends!
We also now realize we had the freedom and option of actually reading our Holy Bible as it is written, and did NOT! Why?, we do NOT know?!
what we do KNOW IS: when did actually read and reread: it was with confusion we tried to sort-out what this meant! Who can help? YES: the workers! Result was we were told: YOU MUST OBEY the Workers? What had we done that was not obeying them? This IS God’s very mind and will!

AND beside that; the sermon in Gospel mtg. was “put on the whole armour of God”; that ye may be able to ‘withstand’ the wiles of the devil!
What we were asking about WAS: where they pointed us “Word of God”!
Ephesians 6:17 exactly the “helmet of salvation and the sword of the “Spirit” === which is the “Word of God”.
You read this, NOW:
Ephesians 1:(yep in the very same book in letter to the church at Ephesus)
Eph.1:12 that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. 1:13 In whom YOU also TRUSTED, after that ye heard the Gospel of your “salvation”: in-whom ALSO after ye believed,
(“”this is the part””) that brought such a violent reaction!)
ye were SEALED with that ‘holy’ Spirit of PROMISE!!! (Is that NOT God’s Word?). WHY do you say we ARE NOT SEALED???
That was it! You must do what the WORKERS SAY!!!
NOW, we are grateful for such unreasonable reaction because it was the “beginning of release”. Was it easy? No! BUT nothing like so many others who were subject to Ephesians 5:3 Let it not be named once among you!
“”FORNICATION”” = SEXUAL IMMORALITY in all it’s rankest forms done the NAME of Satan or as IS NOW — in the Name of the Father, and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit”; our hearts go-out to each of you in your personal struggle.
And Ephesians 5:5 FOR this ye “KNOW, THAT no.;.;.;.; .; “hath ANY inheritance in the kingdom of Christ or of God.
Ephesians 5:6. Let NO MAN “deceive” you with vain words: because of these things COMETH the “wrath of God” upon the children of disobedience! YES; even when they lie about it to you or your family or each other or in the Court of our Land: or because they are TOOO Old! Yes, did you know It is considered “International Sex Trafficking”?
But just know: God’s heart, mind and soul IS that YOU might be saved.
Paul reaches-out in 1 Corinthians 2: 1-:16 to believers. Paul only writes to believers. This letter to that church in Corinth, was to help them in their man made confusion. 1 Cor.2:7-:9 the wisdom of God did NOT foretell that the Death of Christ would over POWER the evil of the “princes of this world”. God did not reveal the Gospel = good-news of 1Cor. 15:1-:4!
Even Now, 1 Cor. 2:9-:10. God promises he hath revealed “The Deep Things of God”. HOW? By His “SPIRIT”.
Reading and knowing God’s Word is our “Whole armour of God”. Do not let man twist and wrest God’s Word as in 2 Peter 3:15-:16.

I was raised and brought up as a Catholic. My wife and her family were all professing. Our children went to Sunday morning with their mother/my wife, special meetings and conventions. After many years, I started to go to gospel meetings for many years. Eventually, I started to attend Sunday morning for approximately 1 year. That summer at convention, I made my choice. For the first time in my life, I had a true relationship with God and Jesus. I didn’t get baptized until many years later. Before and after I professed, I often questioned some of the underlying rules that seemed to be directed to men and women. For myself, I felt the rules singled out women more than men. I’ve always maintained that the person I have to answer to is God. The restrictive rules implemented came from men and not God. Needless to say that the DB revelations along with all the CSA and SA abuses committed by workers, elders and friends have been disgusting and disturbing. I left the Catholic Church because of similar incidents, thinking that the truth as we called it was the true and the only way. I must add that there’s many good workers, elders and friends in the truth and thankful for that. I admit that, I have many faults but I cannot tolerate sexual abuse of any sort especially when innocent children are involved. I’ve prayed God to give me clarity and direction as to what I should do. At the present time, I decided to step away from attending any meetings.
