Rick Simpson removed from meetings

Subject: Concerning the recent awareness about abuse in Kansas City

To Whom it may concern:

In the Interest of the safety of our children we have a zero tolerance policy. In the best interest of all, we need to make our friends aware whenever we know that there is a perpetrator who has been in our midst and is currently active in our fellowship. This helps us to be responsible to each other and especially to our children. When this is known they will not be allowed to attend any meetings in person. If they travel and spend time in different areas this suspension applies to any meeting anywhere not only their home area.

We are sad to learn and need to share that Rick Simpson has sexually abused two minors in the past. Because this has come to light we have asked him not to attend in person meetings anywhere. This restriction is effective immediately.

Currently we know of only two victims. We want to encourage any victims of sexual assault to come forward no matter who the abuser was. Please report it to the proper legal authorities. It would be good also to let your local workers know, so they can make necessary adjustments for the local meetings.

The Missouri Abuse Hotline is 1-800-392-3738. Another helpful source is to use the hot line (503-386-4634). This hot line will notify workers about the perpetrator and provide guidance tor therapy if needed. Another source the RAINN hotline (1-800-656-4673) and the suicide hotline (988) for anyone in crisis.

Sincerely yours,

Craig Winquist

  1. Glad to see an overseer include the Advocates for Truth hotline number in a statewide email. Seems like a step in the right direction.

  2. “…ONLY two victims”??? This language is so harmful to anyone who has experienced CSA/SA. Two victims is two too many. This belittles anyone who has been hurt by CSA, including me and my wife.

    1. He didn’t say “only two” at the start. He said only two that they are aware off.

It’s pretty clear you have the daggers out, although I agree it’s a poor word choice, I didnt read it the way you did.

    2. I recognized the trigger this would be, but in reading it again in the tone of the rest of the letter, I felt his intent was to state there were two at present, and any additional people should report. Unfortunate choice of words.

  3. Yes, Max, I also was also struck by the use of the word “only”. This is thoughtless and unintentionally revealing of the writer’s sense of harm caused. “ONLY TWO”…Dear God…!! This kind of language breaks my heart because it shows how little this overseer, Craig Winquist, thinks of of these children.

    1. Yes, Concerned, know Craig from years back and he is a very smart person and comes from a well educated and wealthy family. If you ever heard him preach or talk to him, he selects his words very carefully so “only two” was not a mistake on his part – he was just trying to minimize the victims in my opinion. But – given the years of abuse by these guys, what else would one expect?

  4. Is it possible that he meant only two have come forward but he suspects more? Words may mean something else than how they come across. Benefit of the doubt?

    1. There was more than two, he molested my daughter when she was just 3 years old. And now I’m suppose to pray for the workers that knew this was going on and did nothing to stop it. But I noticed no one was saying pray for the victims.

Have you reported your daughters abuse to advocates for the truth hotline, if you haven’t please do!

    2. To Wondering wordage:
Craig Winquist wrote “Currently we know of only two victims”. That’s pretty clear …. so why do you feel the need to twist his words, adding a whole different level of meaning to what was not said or even suggested. It may be because you are uncomfortable with the dismissive characterization of “only two”. He didn’t say “only two have come forward”. Can’t you see what you are doing?
Workers and overseers are masters at word manipulation and it seems like you are too. “Benefit of the doubt?” Indeed
