Ontario Provincial Police have charged two people from Centre Wellington with sexual assaults that date back decades.
They say the alleged incidents happened at a home in Wellington County between 1961 and 1984.
Murray F. Richards, 89, has been charged with 12 total counts of gross indecency, eight counts of indecent assault on a female, sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement.
Ruth E. Richards, 85, has been charged with assault and forcible confinement.
The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph, on March 8.
OPP believe there may be more victims who haven’t come forward.
These charges stem from allegations between 40 and 60 years ago. Some allegations were brought to church leadership in 1992, at which time the meeting was removed from the Richards’ home. They were still allowed to attend meetings without restrictions.
Allegations were again brought to leadership in August of 2023, and Murray was asked to refrain from attending all church functions.

Here it was known for YEARS that gross abuse was taking place. And all that was done is take the ” meeting ” out of the abusive home? The abusers were still given the privilege to mix, mingle and have their say at another meeting? Why? I guess it’s the same thinking that the head workers recently worked so hard for acknowledging global sexual predator, and former worker, Gilbert Smith, to be allowed to participate in meetings. Even though this just announced abuse case took place, “between 40 and 60 years ago”, it just goes to show the abusive people in this ” fellowship ” date back to its inception, and continues to the present. And the plea is, “please let the abusers continue to participate in meetings with the rest of the people”. The actions of
abusers is bad enough, but let’s pour salt in the wounds of the victims and let the abusers continue to have a seat at the table. See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. Just let evil have its way.
How recently did they allow Gilbert back into meetings? Because, it was my understanding they first took the meeting out of his home, and he was going to be allowed to attend, and then that was taken away too. Did they then allow him to come back again?
Also, just wanted everyone to know, there are no known predators attending meetings of any kind in Washington State. Darryl took a firm stand, and it’s the right stand. We had a worker from another country show up in Washington this past summer, and Darryl learned his name was on the “list”, and he was sent back to his country immediately without being allowed to stay at the convention grounds. Some workers are just treating it like an “oops!” as thought it’s “just a sin”…and that’s not the case. It’s a criminal matter, and one that NONE of the workers are equipped to handle. We DO know that even if they have been incarcerated for decades that they WILL reoffend at the first opportunity given, because they are not worried about getting caught! The depravity of these individuals and their ability to groom and fool even those who think they are smart…is unfathomable.
We can forgive people without having them in fellowship where they are ONLY coming to find a new victim. If you THINK otherwise, YOU have been groomed and fooled.
What right do we have to deny someone the opportunity to repent? How can we ban someone from seeking the gospel? Would Jesus do this? How closed is your heart?
Research shows that in the vast majority of situations, pervs, peds, and perps are never cured. If they do want to repent, that is between them and God only. They certainly do not need to “attend meeting” in order to repent. People like Reynolds and Corfield should NEVER EVER be around kids again.
John Doe: Give a complete “definition of ‘repent’ “. What does that WORD mean to you? What is required of the “repenter”? How can that repenter completely make THEIR ‘victim’ complete again – as before the victim was traumatized by their twisted “inhuman-lust”? Your question is: “would Jesus do this?”

Good morning John Doe I first would have to question what you mean by repent? I am a victim/survivor of Don Reynolds I have never seen him repent. He said I would do well to change my attitude. Is that repentance? Most of these monsters have never paid for there crime and are a danger to children. Would you wish for the to be around you child or grandchildren. I would surly hope not it’s common sense. These animals have had all their life to find God instead they chose to find children to harm. Hopefully they can find God in prison!

John Doe also should know that the fellowship doesn’t have a monopoly on the “gospel “. The church I attend explains the gospel much more clearly and accurately than any worker ever did.
Reynolds and Corfield and their ilk are worse than animals – even animals do not do CSA. Animals are very protective of their young. However, the cult believes one must be in meetings to repent. Thus, the Don Reynolds of the world are still allowed to go to meetings and funerals and maybe even a potluck. Reynolds and others like him are placed above the many CSA/SA victims.

Matthew 23:5 – :38 is a very apt description of the very “ministry” who claim to follow Jesus ministry to Nation of Israel. 1900 plus years have not changed the nature of the ministry nor the corrupted, evil minds who hide under the So Called cloak of God. Verses :37 – :39 IS-WAS Jesus = What Jesus would Do.

@John Doe- Our RIGHT to deny someone entry into a fellowship meeting, is there are natural consequenses to immoral behavior. Raping/molesting/inappropriate touching of any kind to a child or another adult, is not “just a sin” that can be forgiven. It’s true they can seek repentance for that sin, but their forgiveness does NOT come with privileges of future fellowship.
I’ll give you an example: Jesus was on the cross with two that had done immoral things (they both deserved to die). Jesus had the power to remove Himself from the Cross…AND the thief that recognized that Jesus was on the cross, Jesus COULD have removed him from the cross too. He did neither. There are natural consequenses for natural immoral behavior.
God is well able to reach anyone wherever they are…if they ever find ONE SHRED of honesty that He can work with. Work out your own salvation, in FEAR and TREMBLING. If you really want help with your addiction, YOU would CHOOSE to never be where something that tempts you, is. No parks, Grocery stores, libraries, churches, meetings, etc. But, your demand to attend, definitely shows you have too much arrogance for God to work within you, and you’d ONLY be attending in search of a NEW VICTIM. Stay home. Seek God.

Chull1103 – please consider reporting Reynolds to the FBI. He may have other CSA victims in North and South America, as well as Ireland, where Reynolds vacationed at least once. The FBI is interested not only in victims, but those that enabled people like Reynolds (i.e. Overseers, Elders, and others in the know that provided cover).

You are a child. He is an authoritative adult. He first convinces you this is a good thing. You don’t know, you are confused but he is the authority who you trust. You don’t report.
The “love” continues. You are feeling really uneasy about it and coming to realize this is wrong because you feel terrible. You get older and confront him. He threatens to…..embarrass you, hurt you, kill you. You get terrified and don’t report.
Please, let us not be naive about how this works. It is insidious. Very few victims report as children, they don’t even understand that it is a crime because they are deceived by the perp. It takes decades to understand what happened to them and come to terms with it. Memories are buried for self protection. When the memories come back, they are hardly even in a emotional condition to report, even as an adult.

1st they get to be good buddies with all the friends in the field where their chosen victim resides, then draw closer to the family and with everyone in the family all interacting in a “healthy way”, then they start what you’ve described above.
This is a long process. Not just one afternoon some kid does something to draw attention to themselves and they are nabbed, nor are they the one that “just happened to walk by”… it’s NOT random. They want to be sure everyone around that chosen child thinks the world of them, so SHOULD the child ever find their voice…NO ONE will believe them – ever.

Agreed! I think more people are getting that message now, but too many were under the impression for decades that you “Can’t take a brother before the law”…which is not true, when it comes to criminal behavior. Of course back 40-60 years ago this was still not considered a crime by our courts, but that doesn’t mean that God didn’t consider it criminal behavior, and an abomination to Him!
@Beholder – Exactly! If there was rape involved, go straight to the hospital (do NOT attempt to clean yourself up – it removes evidence). They will bring in law enforcement after all evidence is collected, pictures taken, and you have been cleaned up. Report EVERYTHING. The overseers name that allowed them to attend meetings in your field and the Elders name that complied with the well-groomed nut at the top who demanded it.
If a rape wasn’t involved – call law enforcement immediately and explain what just happened, and see what their protocol is for your type of event. Some will still want you to go to the hospital, others want you to come in to their office, and others will send an officer to you. Again, report EVERYTHING.

Now leadership acts! After 60 years! Fellowship leadership let a known sex abuser operate at will, and leadership only took the meeting out of the abusers home, so he was no longer an elder. But, since the abuser was 29 years old he got to do as he wished and leadership looked the other way. Now that Murray Richards is 89 years old, leadership says, you can’t come to meetings anymore? No, leadership is asking Murray to “refrain” from coming to meetings. Like feeble Murray is a threat now.
It appears like the barn door is being shut way after the horse got out. And now Murray is being asked to “refrain” from attending church functions. Refrain means to stop oneself from doing something. Murray has never been able to stop himself. It’s way past time that church leadership needs to kick out and be done with sexual predators. Instead of asking them to refrain. But, something that has never been done, why start now?
Please be aware that age is not a barrier to offenders. Professionals will confirm that 80+ yo perps can still be dangerous. Let’s hope the courts don’t have your attitude to “feeble” Murray.
I agree, they should NEVER be allowed back, no matter how old they are. Because, even at 89, they are still watching for a chance to “show love” to anyone they can catch in their web of lies!

This statement from the article is cause for continued concern. I am recalling the guidelines suggested by Ontario in August. These seemed to expect predators to make decisions to protect victims. i cannot recall any responsibility directed to workers to protect or support survivors. And there always seems to be a way back identified for perpetrators in complete disregard for those who have been assaulted and traumatized.
@Ellen McLane – you are correct, statistically 66% will never tell anyone. Women usually can’t find the words to speak about what has traumatized them until they are between 40-60, and men 60 – until their deathbed. Which makes laws prohibiting reporting of abuse more than 2 years after someone turns 18 or whatever, very prejudiced. Whoever came up with these laws clearly didn’t understand this disease.
The workers, however, are spending way too much time trying to save people who don’t want to be saved, they just don’t want to be without access to future victims. Kind of reminds me of Matthew 7:6 (casting pearls before swine) and not being a good samaritan!
Hopefully the victim/survivors have retained good legal counsel. They could possibly freeze their assets pending the outcome of a criminal trial if found guilty. Then onto a civil lawsuit for damages.

Just think of all the influence peddling I could have had. I guess I’ll need to advertise that service better in the future.
Yes Amen, I do know from experience. Sometimes when one of the friends pass away they will “will” money, property, vehicles etc to either an elder or one of the friends that they trust to make sure their willed money goes to support the ministry or other wishes. So in essence that willed money becomes the property of the elder or friends it was willed to.
I absolutely know this for a fact! Several times.
When we were still in the cult, we wanted to leave our entire estate to the cult leadership. We were given the name of an elite cult member in the state we were living in at the time. The cult overseer (who most all in the USA would know) told us that this elite cult member was in charge of the cult trusts in the state. We did not like this idea, since we did not even know this elite cult cult member, except once per year at the convention. We went to this same overseer at a later date with an out of state CSA issue – he would not do one thing to resolve the issue.

@Money, you bring up a good point, here we have a homeless ministry and they have MONEY. When Peter asked Jesus about those like himself who gave up all. One of the things Jesus promised them was that they would have a hundred homes. Kind of amazing for a homeless ministry to have a hundred homes isn’t it? Come to think of it Jesus also had a bag of MONEY when he was preaching the gospel. Guess it wasn’t in His name because it says Judas kept the bag. Also says Judas was a thief so maybe he wasn’t managing the bag all that well. I am sure most of the money Jesus had was used properly for the spread of the gospel. We are all responsible for how we use any money in our possession. Those of us not in the ministry tend to think it’s ours and we can do whatever we want with it but I think one day we will find that wasn’t so true.
It’s doubtful Jesus was in possession of any money obtained from the estates of widows. If He did He would have needed more than a bag. Then further, Jesus tried to split that money up in order to shelter that money from sexual assault lawsuits? No. Would William Irvine do this? Sounds more like the character of William Irvine.
@WILLIAM, you are no doubt right, Jesus probably didn’t receive any widows dowers. First of all His ministry was pretty short, and it would appear that in his time there weren’t too many dowers held by widows. That was one of the purposes for setting up deacons, because the widows were in dire straights. The admonishen in that day was that the widows should first of all be supported by their own kinfolk, down to their nephews. Today most widows are supported by our governments or have dowers of their own. What widows do with these dowry’s is none of my business, I know my own is set up to support my children.

William Irvine: Your response to Amen is very well taken and explains the unbelievable responses to the deep need for finally recognizing that many, many wurkers, have many, many victims that have been destroyed. A recent example of the “overseers” reaction is personified in George Peterson’s reaction. Wings has posted his response to the depilating, medical emergency, sexual attack with date rape drugging by a very well KNOWN to overseers that Ira was a sexual criminal. This criminal was given the well practiced procedure of shift and hide that had been practiced for 90 decades at least.
Ira was treated as an upstanding, worthy, “elder” to lead and feed the flock.
This Letter from George Peterson came “four” years too late! This Letter admits George Peterson is incapable of leading and protecting “anyone”: let alone the innocent from a twisted, criminal, without any human dignity or human knowledge ministry. Was this letter the result of a lawsuit being filed against Ira and hard facts could No Longer Be Hidden?
The facts that have been revealed by the Posts on Wings have blown many personal identities and actions. Who did the 12 preach to while they follow the 12? Acts 2:5, :14 – :21,(Jews) and :22, :36.
Who do they follow? All believers follow the 12’s Doctrine: Acts 2:42-46. all “believers” sold all -:45. and worshipped continuing ‘daily’ in the “Temple”.
Do the workers follow the 12 as they worshipped in the “temple”?

No wonder, they are NOT able to follow Jesus NOW and are not able to even understand that an international sex ring is against God’s very Law; and against EVEN the Law of Human dignity, let alone Man’s codified Law! How would they understand it is against God’s Law and man’s Law to hide and shift funds from their “believers”?!; who they have harmed grievously.

@Skip, you are correct. That’s why there’s not ONE pot of money that victims can access for help in getting the help they need. But, since he’s been an elder, perhaps he was willed something that this victim can get access to.

The “organization”, formerly known as the ” fellowship “, the ” truth “, the “way”, …., hides the money they have from the widows estates they were handed like it’s a shell game. The organization is very crafty when it comes to the money! I have personally knowledge of money being held in suitcases and stored in members homes. Money being kept in various bank accounts. This is the “homeless” ministry that has purposely broken the global organization up into fractured small groups that legally could not be tied to the global organization. This to stop any flow of money in a large law suit. No other religious group has gone to the extremes of “the organization” to shield it’s money. The victims of Murray Richards and his accomplish wife will only hope the Richards have added they can sue for because the victims will be very hard pressed to get any recovery out of “the organization”.

Dear Ruth (& George), Joyce (& Alice), Noreen, Judy, Sharon, Janet, Sandra, Gail, Garth & Paul, I had a call from (the Friend trustee) who has been looking after a trust account that was given to be used for BC worker’s care and health. Recently the laws have changed and (he) feels that it would be best if the remaining funds would to be distributed to the some or all of the BC workers for needs now and in the future. So I was wondering if it would be ok to have it sent to some of our senior workers who have needs now and in the future. At present I am thinking that Ruth, Noreen, Joyce and Sandra will have some present needs and that we could have more sent to
them. And then maybe we’d have the remaining funds divided evenly between Garth, Judy. Janet, Sharon, Gail and Paul. So if you (10) senior workers are ok with this, I will instruct (the trustee) to send it to you by cheques. (The trustee) is anxious to have this business settled in the next few days before 2024 and the new laws come into effect. Also I believe (the trustee) will be leaving in a few days for some holidays, so an answer ASAP would be appreciated, so he can get this business
settled.
Roughly it would amount to about 30,000/each for the first 4 workers on this list and 10,000/ea for the remaining 6 workers.

I don’t know why people leave estates to the workers. When it is an “estate” obviously they are in no need of what they are giving anymore. According to the Bible,( “the word of God”,) our blessing comes when we give when we are alive, and may be in need of what we give for ourselves. Herein is our “blessing.” But of course if that was taught like it should be, they would no longer have estates left to them !!!!
I had a Great Aunt and Uncle leave their entire estate to the workers. The executrix later told my parents how much was given and it was a lot of money. As they no longer needed it there is no “blessing” in that. They had a niece who needed it more.

What does a ” homeless ministry ” with “hundreds of homes”, need with the many hundreds of thousands of dollars garnered through these estates that have been obtained?
You are correct. No funds should be given to take care of the ministry or given directly to them. If that’s done, that means there’s no faith that God will keep them, as he promised.
But, I know not all inheritance is given to the ministry. Some is given into a trust for the sole purpose of taking care of a convention place (paying the taxes, paying for upkeep whether it’s putting a new roof on the house or purchasing a new tent (or as more are going to, putting up a new metal “meeting shed”) and things like that.
But, I’m wondering, if places are no longer having convention…what’s the legal obligation of those in charge of those trusts? Do they then distribute those funds to the needy in that state? Somehow I doubt it.
This terrible incident of CSA like so many we are now hearing about happened some 40-60 years ago. Some details are given about the sketchy times when allegations were finally known and some actions that were taken, but much of the details are left out or unknown. Long ago I heard that for every incident there are three sides to every story, your side, my side and Gods side, and only one of those really matters. I have often thought over the last several months how nice it would be to know Gods side to all these stories. After all it does say that adulterers and whore mongers God will judge. There is no doubt in my mine that God has been doing a work during this time. How has He dealt with the victim and the perpetrators? We read about how the two that sold a piece and held back some had their lives snuffed out by God immediately.. But here we are 60 years later and so what has God been doing? He certainly has a plan and is doing it, but we don’t always see the plan. I think we all know what He would like to do for all of us in His love. That is why He sent His Son to die for us.

I would venture to understand that tHis timing is just as He planned. Is the comment “why did it take so long’ the sequel to ‘How long Lord’? Anyone that has the cahoonas (Cahoonas definition: anyone with the courage to search for truth) to look and see, will maybe observe that this certain ‘unfortunate’ truth has appeared and is being brought to light in the seat of many religions. Some commentary of this and other religions states ‘this seems to be only the tip of the iceberg”, or something to that effect.
There is no question that this ‘unfortunate’ truth being revealed is truly an annoyance to those that are hunkered down in their reserved seats paying allegiance to the religious assemblage of peoples. To any that may be inclined to ponder the matter before the heavenly court of justice, the organizations are crying foul. Do we not want to see that the fig leaves that most/all religions encouraged their followers to cover up with (covert or overt messaging) are being stripped off bit-by-bit to reveal the noisome lesions that now appear to have plagued organized religion’s seats of power for 1800 years or so? Do we really want to wait for the next vial of tincture to awaken our senses? It may not be the new brand of dark roast from Costco that stimulates our senses as we wipe the slumber from our eyes.

All I am trying to bring out here is that we have a situation here where decades can go by with no one outside of the perp or the victim knows that anything even happened, but I take comfort that God knows and is doing something about it to help. Richards…has been charged with 12 total counts of gross indecency, eight counts of indecent assault on a female, sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement. Ruth E. Richards…has been charged with assault and forcible confinement”. The fellowship allowance: “Some allegations were brought to church leadership in 1992, at which time the meeting was removed from the Richards’ home. They were still allowed to attend meetings without restrictions”. …Respond with God’s love? God’s wrath is more fitting, for both the Richards’ and the ” church leadership”, who “allowed (the Richards) to attend meetings without restrictions”. Very ” fellowship ” like to excuse and sweep the matter under the rug and say, with “God’s love”.
The brother of Murray who has since passed away raped a woman I know when she was 13 years old…seems this kind of behavior runs in the same family…so 😔
I thought it was pretty clear when I said once we knew that hopefully we would respond with Gods love toward the victim. After all that is what the parable of the Good Samaritan is all about. I personally will leave Gods wrath up to him. I read a lot of places about loving others, but I don’t feel God needs my help in giving out his wrath. I know nothing about the details of the Richard’s case. You bring out that they are now charged with criminal conduct, you also point to 1992, some 30 years ago when allegations were brought to church leadership. Sounds like a terrible long time between allegations and charges. Why? I am not trying to defend the decision made 30 years ago because I have no idea what the allegations were at that time. I would assume that the allegations became much more concrete over the 30 year period? The Richard’s were allowed to attend without restrictions, but in that the meeting was removed from their home I would assume it was pretty widespread knowledge that something bad had happened? Lots of facts we don’t know at this time.
“Amen”. FYI. Someone close to the situation in the meetings in that area tells me that “everybody knew”. Of course, few people knew any details. That is how we defended ourselves from abusers (not just in the 2×2 community but the general community as well) decades ago…..whispers go around without much detail but enough to watch that person closely.
As far as the time between allegations and charges, this is nothing unusual. Victims can take decades before they feel strong enough to take action…..and it does take strength. The fact is, the majority of victims never do follow through with criminal complaints because they can hardly talk about it, let alone subject themselves to law enforcement, courts, and possible retaliations from people directly or peripherally involved. Skepticism about these time lags is unfounded and unfair. The old “crime, report, done, move on” that some people promote is just terribly ignorant and wrong as the victim has to be able to report and many are never able.

@Watchman – agreed, and another reason why so much time passes, and there’s no charges. Judges & prosecutors will not take a case that they are afraid they won’t win (even though they KNOW the guy did it, they just don’t have the DNA, or a witness, or ?) as it puts a “ding” on their WINNING streak – which helps create fear in the ones being prosecuted. I know victims who spent a lot of time trying to get the attention of the prosecutor’s office, and it wasn’t until another newer victim came forward (many years later) and because that first case had been reported, and there was DNA in the next case…they both got what they had hoped for. Unfortunately, not everyone is that fortunate!

For the meeting to be removed from the home, it was widespread knowledge bad things happened. Why does the ” truth”, as it was known back then, want people back in the “meetings” when they made such bad things happen? The people assaulted are still out there dealing with their wounds. This continues to go on today, with the recent Gilbert Smith matter. The workers work so hard to keep the bad actors active. I and many other people have experienced this first hand. Keep the bad actors out there!

Don’t you suppose nothing was done because he had two blood brothers in the work??? Yes it was known to a certain degree what had happened but I don’t think it was fully understood because it was covered up by brother workers. With two brothers in the work don’t you think that a case of incest would be hidden?? It is more important to hide things, but they tend to foget that God sees all !! Also we are taught by the Bible, that which is done in secret shall be declared from the rooftops !! The sister worker who was involved in this did try to do something about it and was shot down by three brother workers !!!!. That lady fought to keep her sanity, as she was hospitalized and even ended up in a mental hospital for a few days until the doctors were able to help her. I was in conversation with her within the past year and she is still very upset at what was done, and also the fact that a wednesday “bible study” was put back into their home immediately. (That would be to help the coverup and the removal of the Sunday A:M). She walked away from the work and this fellowship,so don’t think she didn’t try,!!! I believe Carson Cowan was overseer at the time, and Johnnie Richards was his right hand man, and the clean up crew for whatever had to be dealt with, so there is your answer to why nothing was done.!!! Both are now deceased. John Richards was a”bull in a china shop” if ever there was one and always felt that he had to put his hands on you when speaking to you. If I had known then what I know now he would have received a good one to the jaw!!!!! And “yes” there was a third one involved who is still alive and just into his eighties. I was never so disappointed in anyone when she told me who it was.!!! He is still in the work and alive, so that makes him complicit!!!!! The other brother was Glenn Richards who is also deceased now, and I’m not sure of any involvement there.
Never did I think that I would be writing about this when she spoke to me about this, less than a year ago. It just goes to show what is being brought to light.!!!! There are no secrets from God and he can reveal whatever he chooses to. This should make us all tremble!!!!! Also the difference of having a site like this where all posts can be read around the world makes it much harder to hide wrongs !!!!

As noted, the Bergess brothers were well known with Weldon being the “overseer” and his brother, the sex molester. Weldon had his way with what he wanted, including removing meetings from at least one home that was not warranted, and then looking the other way when it came to his brother. I have know from personal experience and sitting in on the meeting where Weldon removed a long time elder. It is documented that Weldon’s brother, Horace Burgess was a child sexual predator (“We also know that Horace Burgess has been involved in concupiscence and lasciviousness and uncleanness (Romans 1:24; Ephesians 5:3; I Thes.4:7) with young girls for several decades” WFT 8/31/88).

When that didn’t make a difference because of the power of the male ” workers”, the BEST thing this lady did was to leave the “fellowship” system. Yes, it is a bit messy.
If you reply at the very bottom of the comments, it is chronological. However, if you reply to a specific comment, the system will place your comment under that one to try to group a conversation. If it was all chronological, it would be impossible to have a two way conversation. There are certainly better platforms that are easier to follow but this one is not really designed for conversations but makes a feeble attempt to make it work for that.
So essentially, the comment section is primarily designed for people to comment directly on the article and the conversation aspect seems like it was designed as more of an afterthought.
